Chelsea's Blog of the First Day in Costa Rica

El 16 de Marzo, 2013

The first day here was fun. We all ate some really good breakfast that was similar to the dinner we ate. After we finished eating all of us ( except the adults) went over to the trampoline and jumped around with the kids here. Right after we got off the trampoline we had a meeting with one of the volunteers (his name is Javier). With Javier we learned Pura Vida, which they use here to say hi, and Mae, which is something similar to "mate" or "dude". We all walked to the place were we are supposed to work on the community center and saw how we could help. Then we walked over to a school across the road from the project and saw what a school that most of the kids go to looked like. We also learned that the kids there only have three of four hours of school because there are a limited amount of teachers there to teach and about 180 students were educated there. We then took about ten minutes to put on our bathing suits to swim in the river nearby. We swam in the cold water for about thirty minutes and then returned to the bedroom areas to dry off for lunch. After lunch we were returned to the trampoline and stayed for about an hour. We then walked over for water rafting.

The rest of the day is written by Olivia A.C.

Thank you for reading my blog!
